Component 2

INITIATIVE FOR ADVANCEMENT OF THE TEACHERS’ PROFESSION

The goal of the project component 2 is to strengthen and advance the teachers’ profession in the preschool, primary and secondary education in the Republic of Macedonia as well as to enable:

  • improved quality of teachers’ education in a way that corresponds to the challenges of lifelong studying in a society based on knowledge;
  • developed European dimension of education in the educational programs for teachers in the Republic of Macedonia;
  • improved public image of the teachers’ profession and mutual trust in the teachers’ qualifications;

The following techniques and methods of research will be used in the process:

  • Documentation analysis
  • Educational proposal analysis

– Capacities for education of preschool and primary school teachers
– Number and type of academic staff by location
– Study programs
– Organizational structure
– Conditions
– Number of preschool, primary and secondary school teachers and location
– Number of unemployed preschool, primary and secondary school teachers and location

  • Interviews with deans and vice-deans
  • Survey of employed preschool staff
  • Survey of employed primary school teachers
  • Survey of employed primary school subject teachers
  • Survey of employed high school teachers
  • Survey of students in their final year of studying at the Teacher training schools and the Institute for pedagogy

 Key research area

The process will take into account the influence of the key factors and trends, such as:

  • Contemporary trends in the teachers’ profession in Europe and the world;
  • Changes in structure of the institutions for higher education of preschool and primary school teachers;
  • Changes in the study programs;
  • Changes in the number of the teaching personnel;
  • Demographic changes;
  • Aptness of the teaching profile to the needs of the labor market locally and nationally;
